The Franco-German cultural channel Arte is set for an HD satellite launch on July 1. It will be available in both its German and French language version as a free-to-air channel on Astra at 19.2 degrees East.
Originally, only a French version was envisaged, but now a spokesperson for the channel has confirmed a German soundtrack will also be available. All programming that is available in native HD will be transmitted in full HD, all other material will be upscaled.
Arte HD will also be available for distribution on other platforms. In France, a DTT launch is foreseen for November this year.
