Pre-pay plan for Ukraine DTH

Viasat Ukraine’s new DTH platform will be a pre-pay platform. Known as UA.TV, it is now being sold on a monthly pre-paid basis, sitting alongside MTG’s existing Viasat Ukraine satellite pay-TV platform.

UA.TV will provide a basic channel package of 58 popular national and international free-TV and pay-TV channels to customers who purchase the necessary satellite dish and receiver. It will broadcast from the Astra 4A satellite, the former Sirius at 5 degrees East.

The package includes Viasat’s own TV1000 Russian Kino, Viasat Nature and Viasat Explorer channels, as well as third party channels such as Discovery, children’s channel Detskiy, and national free-TV channels Pershy Natsionalny, 1+1, Ukraine, STB and ICTV.

Subscriptions to the package are being sold at UAH 39 (€3.70) per 30 day period. UA.TV will also offer two larger channel packages for higher fees but also on a pre-paid basis.

Jørgen Madsen, President and CEO of MTG, said: “The launch of UA.TV is the next step in the development of our pay-TV business in Ukraine. The addition of a new, separate, pre-paid mass market entry level pay-TV brand is intended to make our services available to even more of the 19 million TV households in the country, as the service is easily accessible to people who choose not to have one of our more comprehensive subscription services.”

The new service will make use of the existing technical, sales and customer support infrastructure that has been in place since the launch of Viasat Ukraine in 2008.

Viasat Ukraine currently has around 150,000 subscribers, while its nearest competitor Xtra TV has in the region of 100,000.
